Guillaume Cardoso de Sousa MATADORAS Collection

Marseille born fashion designer Guillaume Cardoso de Sousa, knew what his true calling in life was at a very young age. When he was 16 he discovered Vogue and drew his very first collection, little did he know that his dreams and sketches would come to life. Guillaume soon went on to study draping at La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. During his studies he gained internships at fashion houses Jean Paul Gaultier and Kenzo. Not long after finishing at La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Guillaume was snapped up by Givenchy Haute Couture with Ricardo Tisci working as a freelance draper. Guillaume spread his draping talent throughout all the top fashion houses in Paris, such as Christian Dior, Hermes, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent to name a few.

After a trip to Los Angeles in 2008, Guillaume fell in love with the city and decided to move there. Since then he has created 2 of his own collections. Guillaume stays true to his couture routes by carefully hand making each and every piece. Guillaume experiments with various different fabrics, manipulating and treating them to create new and interesting shapes and textures. His collections go beyond just the design; they are a work of art.

Guillaume’s most recent collection for fall/winter 2012-13 is called MATADORAS. MATADORAS evokes images of matadors in an urban world. With structured shapes, sportswear fabrics and a simple colour palette of black, white, red and beige, you discover the urban matador. The collection is strong and sexy, whilst still leaving something to the imagination. The fall/winter 2012-13 runways turned women into the Dominatrix and Guillaume’s collection is a softer play on the trend. From the MATADORAS collection you also get a strong sense that the women are warriors, like the matador fighting the bull. As for the shoes, they are innovative by mixing trainers with evening shoes and it is the perfect combination for a shoe unlike any other. Guillaume Cardoso de Sousa is definitely a designer to watch, expect to see great things from this designer.
